– By Gypsy C. Gallardo, CEO, The 2020 Plan & One Community Plan
The wave of national protests following the murder of George Floyd has led to a flurry of philanthropic interest in the black community, particularly from our white brothers and sisters.
People from all walks of life want to do something (anything) to help. But few people – black or white – are aware of the expansive field of organizations working to advance the African American community. Even fewer are connected enough to reach out to organizations that represent their passion.
In an effort to bridge that divide, the One Community Plan is working to develop an online roster of the black-led organizations involved with community advancement efforts in Pinellas County.
I’ve listed over 100 black-led organizations below and am asking readers to help grow this list! If you or someone you know is leading an organization that should be added to this list, please do two things:
Email us at OneCommunityPlan@gmail.com (send the name of the organization, one sentence about what the organization does, and your website address). This info will be used to create links in the list below; and we will repost this article with brief descriptions of each organization’s work and focus.
Once you’ve done that, please hop over to Green Book of Tampa Bay to list your organization in this online directory, which has hundreds of businesses and organizations registered.
